FOR IT IS IN GIVING THAT WE RECEIVE...

Boring was established as a business technology company in 1924 (learn more about our history here) and has continued to be one of the most philanthropic businesses in its industry.  Supporting local charities with donations and sponsorships is an integral part of the company culture, which rests upon a set of 27 "fundamentals" known as The Boring Way.

It is during this time of holiday cheer that we all turn our hearts toward giving and celebrating THE SPIRIT OF THE SEASON. LUCKY FOR US, Charity; Kindness; Humor; and Fun are pillars of the Boring Way year round.

"Having lived in Lakeland and Polk County my entire life," says Boring's President & CEO Dean Boring, "I experienced first hand what a giving community Lakeland is.  But what really impresses me is when I meet business people who are new to this area, who make the same comments about Lakeland being such a 'giving' community."

Why is Lakeland such a giving community?

"My first thought," Boring explains, "is that it started with George Jenkins, Publix founder, who I think was the most truly giving person and business man I had ever witnessed.  Mr. Jenkins set the example and fortunately for us, many other business leaders continued to do the same. Giving seems to be part of our local culture. And thank goodness for that."

George Jenkins, founder of Publix, established the George W. Jenkins Foundation in 1966 to improve Publix communities. The foundation's name later became became Publix Super Markets Charities.

Jenkins was once famously asked what he thought he would be worth had he not given so much away. Humbly, and without hesitation he replied, "Probably nothing."
